The school library is one of the important pillars of the learning process and literacy culture. However, in practice, library management in many schools is still done manually, from collection and membership records to book lending and return services. This condition often causes various obstacles, such as difficulties in tracing collections, inaccuracies in the number of books, limited information on the status of loans, and the preparation of administrative reports that have not been optimally organized. Through the use of Information Technology, Library digitization can be a solution to realize more orderly, efficient, and sustainable management.
The Department of Informatics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Diponegoro University carried out community service activities on Friday, February 6, 2026 at Banyumanik Mardisiswa high school. This activity focuses on the application of Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS) as a library management system based on information technology. Implementation of activities includes installation and initial configuration of SLiMS, library identity settings, as well as training on the use of the system to library managers to be able to Manage Library data and services digitally.
The training was organized with a hands-on approach so that participants can learn through simulation of the use of the system according to the operational needs of the library. The training materials include introduction to the main features of SLiMS, input and update of book data, management of member data, setting the number of copies of collections, as well as simulation of lending and returning book transactions. Throughout the implementation, the service team also provided assistance to help participants understand the workflow of the system, resolve technical obstacles, and ensure that each stage can be implemented properly.
Through this Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi activity, the targeted outcomes are the availability of a digital library management system that can be used sustainably, increasing the competence of library managers in managing data and services, and the orderly administration of digital libraries. Ultimately, the implementation of SLiMS in SMA Mardisiswa Banyumanik is expected to improve the quality of library services, support the learning process, and strengthen the culture of literacy in the school environment.
