The Geomatics and Planning Laboratory, Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) Undip held an international conference titled “The 6th Geoplanning International Conference and Scientific Consortium”. This event was held in a hybrid format at the Engineering Hall, Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo, M.Sc. Building, 5th Floor, on 6-7 August 2025.
Under the theme “Enhancing Urban Resilience through Disaster Risk Spatial Modelling”, this biennial event was attended by 100 offline and online participants from various backgrounds, ranging from researchers, academics, lecturers, practitioners, and policymakers actors.
“The theme of the conference this year is ‘Enhancing urban resilience through disaster modelling’, highlighting the critical issue of our time, the urgent need to build cities that are not only smarter and more sustainable, but also resilient in the face of increasing disaster risks,” said Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Imam Buchori, S.T., chairman of this event.
This conference is supported by the World Class University program, an initiative from Universitas Diponegoro to support internationalization programs that can improve its reputation and visibility on the global stage.
This year, there are four sub-themes proposed, namely Transformative Spatial Modelling for Hydrometeorological Disaster Risks Mitigation, Spatial Dynamics of Urban Expansion and Climate-Induced Disaster Vulnerability, Participatory GIS and Inclusive Approaches for Community-based Disaster Risk Reduction, and Integrated Spatial Modelling for Multi-Hazard and Environmental Risk Assessment.
“This seminar is envisioned as a forum for effective communication between academics, practitioners, and policymakers actors enabling the exchange of ideas and the co-creation of solutions that can be implemented across different contexts and regions,” Prof. Imam firmly said.
There were five keynote speakers at this conference. Three speakers attended the event offline, namely Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T., M.T., MPS. from Universitas Diponegoro, Assoc. Prof. Sr. Dr. Siti Aekbal from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, dan Dr. Anang Wahyu Sejati, S.T., M.T. from Universitas Diponegoro. The other two speakers attended it online, namely Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Mustafa Üstüner from Samsun University, Türkiye, and Prof. Dr. Alexander Zipf from Heidelberg University, Germany.
The Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ir. Nita Aryanti, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPU., expressed her appreciation towards this conference. She hoped that this conference would be a good start for DURP Undip and the Faculty of Engineering to establish further collaborations with its existing partners.
“I hope you can enjoy the conference and get more insight, more knowledge, you can share the information in this session, and I hope this is not only limited to the conference and consortium, but also extends to further the collaboration between the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Faculty of Engineering,” she said.
